I was lucky enough to meet Maureen O’Hara when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Irish Tatler Women Of The Year Awards in 2010. Maureen spoke at length about her own struggles as a woman trying to succeed in Hollywood in the 1940’s, and you could hear a pin drop in the packed ballroom for the duration of her acceptance speech. She was a very engaging, entertaining 90-year-old lady then and she received a standing ovation for her hilarious anecdotes about the business. This mid-term break, I’ll be introducing my girls to the films of Maureen O’Hara, it’s the best way I can think of honouring an incredibly talented and inspirational woman.
